Denver, CO – As far as the Rockies are concerned, the Jamie Moyer experiment has come to an end.
Colorado designated the 49-year-old starter for assignment on Wednesday, prior to the third installment of a four-game series with the Houston Astros.
The club has 10 days to either trade or release him.
Moyer was 2-5 with a 5.70 earned run average in 10 appearances for the Rockies this season, dropping three of his last four starts and giving up 13 earned runs and 16 hits over 8 2/3 innings in his last two outings.
Prior to this season, Moyer last pitched in 2010 for the Philadelphia Phillies, posting a 9-9 record with a 4.84 ERA, 63 strikeouts and 20 walks in 19 starts. He had Tommy John surgery on his left elbow following the 2010 season and missed all of 2011.
He broke into the majors in 1986 with the Chicago Cubs -- making his first- ever start against the Phillies and Steve Carlton -- and won a World Series title with Philly in 2008.
Moyer made his only All-Star team with Seattle in 2003 and was a part of the record-setting 2001 Mariners team that won 116 games.
In his career, Moyer has 269 wins and a 4.25 ERA to go along with 2,441 strikeouts and 1,155 walks.
