The New York Mets placed infielder Ronny Cedeno on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, retroactive to May 27.

Cedeno, who left a May 26 game because of a strained left calf, is hitting .231 with one home run and seven RBI in 65 at-bats this season.

The Mets recalled infielder Jordany Valdespin from Triple-A Buffalo to take Cedeno's place on the roster. Valdespin, who will be available for tonight's game against Philadelphia, has been with the Mets twice already this season. He is 2-for-20 in the majors this season, but had a game-winning, pinch-hit home run off of the Phillies' Jonathan Papelbon on May 7.
