Besiktas receives European ban

UEFA has banned Turkish club Besiktas from participating in the 2012-13 Europa League because of its continuing financial difficulties.

The club received a suspended sentence from UEFA's Disciplinary Committee earlier this month, and was warned that it would be banned from UEFA competition if it violated any of the governing body's rules over the next five years.

However, the club has been unable to get a hold on its financial troubles and has been banned for one year.

Players have complained of unpaid wages because of the financial problems at Besiktas, which finished fourth in the league this past season and was set to take part in the Europa League playoffs before being banned.
