Chicago White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko has been named the American League Player of the Week for the period ending May 27.
Konerko, who hit .583 with three homers and 10 RBI for the week, claimed his second such honor this season and sixth of his career. It was a successful return to the lineup for Konerko, who was struck in the face with a pitch during a May 18 game against the Cubs.
His best performance of the week came in last Saturday's 14-7 win over Cleveland, going 4-for-4 with a career-high three doubles, two RBI and three runs scored.
Other players considered for the weekly honor were Dayan Viciedo of the Chicago White Sox, Kansas City outfielder Jeff Francoeur, Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira and Angels pitcher Dan Haren.
