Atlanta, GA – The Atlanta Braves optioned pitcher Kris Medlen to Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday.
With the back end of Atlanta's starting rotation struggling, the plan is for Medlen to make the switch from reliever to starting pitcher.
The 26-year-old is 1-1 with a 3.49 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 28 1/3 innings pitched this season.
To fill Medlen's spot on the roster, Atlanta called up outfielder Jose Constanza.
