Milwaukee Brewers starter Marco Estrada was placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with a right quadriceps strain.
The 28-year-old injured himself in Wednesday's game against the Giants while running the bases in the first inning. Estrada grabbed his upper right leg as he rounded first base on a two-run double down the left field line, which gave the Brewers an early 6-0 lead against Barry Zito.
Fellow starter Zack Greinke came in as a pinch runner and Manny Parra replaced Estrada on the mound in the top of the second. Milwaukee won the game, 8-5.
Estrada is 0-3 on the season with a 4.50 ERA and 34 strikeouts.
Right-handed pitcher Mike McClendon will be recalled from Triple-A Nashville on Friday.
