A.J. Allmendinger will start on the pole for Saturday night's Sprint Showdown after topping the speed charts in qualifying at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Allmendinger, who was the second-to-last driver who made his qualifying run, turned a lap at 192.465 mph. Martin Truex Jr. qualified second at 191.049 mph, followed by Dale Earnhardt Jr., who was quickest in practice for this event earlier in the day. Jeff Burton and Aric Almirola rounded out the top-five.
Landon Cassill, Juan Pablo Montoya, Bobby Labonte, Travis Kvapil and David Stremme qualified sixth through 10th, respectively.
Twenty-two drivers will make up the starting field for The Sprint Showdown -- the 40-lap preliminary event for the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race. The top-two finishers in this event will advance into the starting field for the all-star race, which already has a field of 20 drivers.
