Michael Owen will leave Manchester United this summer after three seasons, as the club announced Thursday it will not offer the former England international a new contract.

The 32-year-old joined United in 2009 on a free transfer from Newcastle and scored 17 times in 52 appearances. He played just four times last season, as a thigh injury in November limited him for the rest of the season.

"I have loved every minute of the three years I have spent at such a fantastic club. I would like to thank the players, staff and fans for their support and wish them well for the future," Owen said.

"I now plan to have a short holiday during which I will contemplate my next move."

Owen debuted for Liverpool in 1996 and remained with the club through 2004, when he moved to Real Madrid, but returned to England with Newcastle in 2009.

Capped 89 times for England from 1998-2008, Owen had 40 international goals.
