Brandon Beachy tossed the first shutout of his career to help the Atlanta Braves take a 7-0 win over the Miami Marlins in the finale of a two-game set.

Beachy (5-1) gave up just five hits with six strikeouts and also drove in a run. Freddie Freeman had a solo home run and scored twice while Dan Uggla also scored twice for the Braves, who have won five of seven.

"I always expect to do well when I go out there but I guess I don't ever think about where I compare to everyone else," said Beachy. "I always worked off of my own internal motivation and I got a goal of what I want to accomplish and it really doesn't factor in what everyone else is doing."

Ricky Nolasco (4-2) gave up four runs on seven hits in just four innings of work to take the loss. Giancarlo Stanton's double was the only extra-base hit for the Marlins, who had won their previous two.

"Right now they're playing really well and we're playing really well and we're going to be facing off against each other," said Miami first baseman Gaby Sanchez. "You know it's funny, we're really in a tough division and every single team is doing their thing, everybody is playing well."

The Braves grabbed a lead they never lost in the first when Michael Bourn led off with a single and Martin Prado followed with a triple for a 1-0 lead.

It was 3-0 after the third as Freeman hit a two-out, solo home run. Uggla followed with a walk and came home on Brian McCann's double.

Atlanta scored another run in the fourth. With one out, Tyler Pastronicky singled and moved to second on a sac bunt from Beachy. Bourn then singled to center for a 4-0 lead.

The Braves poured it on in the fifth as RBI singles from Chipper Jones, Jason Heyward and Beachy made it a 7-0 contest.

Stanton hit his double to leadoff the seventh, but Gaby Sanchez grounded out without advancing Stanton. Emilio Bonifacio then grounded out to move Stanton to third, but Brett Hayes struck out to end the inning.

Miami went down in order in the eighth and ninth innings as Beachy also picked up his first-ever complete game.
