The Los Angeles Dodgers placed outfielder Matt Kemp on the 15-day disabled list Monday with a strained left hamstring.

Kemp, who was recently named the National League Player of the Month for April, was batting .359 with five doubles, 12 home runs, 28 RBI and 29 runs scored through 34 games this season.

He sat out Monday's 3-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks, snapping his streak of 399 consecutive games played. Prior to missing the game, the 27- year-old All-Star had not missed a game since August 18, 2009.

Los Angeles recalled outfielder Jerry Sands form Triple-A Albuquerque to fill the roster spot.

Sands made his MLB debut with the Dodgers last season, appearing in 61 games. He hit .253 with 15 doubles, four home runs, 26 runs batted in and 20 runs scored.
