The Kansas City Royals have placed second baseman Yuniesky Betancourt on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right ankle.
The move, announced Thursday, is retroactive to Wednesday.
Betancourt is batting .280 with one homer and three runs batted in over 15 games this season.
The Royals called up second baseman Irving Falu from Triple-A Omaha and moved closer Joakim Soria from the 15-day DL to the 60-day DL. Soria had Tommy John surgery last month, ending his season.
