Owings Mills, MD – Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs has suffered an Achilles injury that could force him to miss the entire 2012 season, or at least a large part of it.
Various reports, including from ESPN and 105.7 The Fan in Baltimore, had earlier indicated that Suggs was hurt playing basketball and had suffered a torn Achilles, an injury that would likely have cost him the entire season.
Suggs, however, quickly refuted those reports, telling the Carroll County Times of Maryland that he was practicing a conditioning test.
"We do a conditioning test every year, and I was practicing it," Suggs told the paper in a text message. "And I went to stop and turn and I thought I sprained it. Went to doc and said it's a partial tear."
Suggs then went to social media to declare that he will return some time in 2012.
"I'm am SO SORRY," he wrote on Twitter. "To all my loyal and true fans, know that everything the can and needs to be done, WILL BE DONE!!!!!! I WILL BE IN A RAVENS UNIFORM IN 2012!!"
The team's website said Suggs will visit a foot specialist next week.
Suggs was the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year in 2011. He helped the Ravens to a record of 12-4 and an AFC North title, recording 14 sacks with 70 tackles, seven forced fumbles and a pair of interceptions.
