Mikhail Youzhny was a straight-set winner, while defending champion Nikolay Davydenko was sent packing Tuesday at the $525,000 BMW Open, a clay-court French Open tuneup.

The sixth-seeded 2012 BMW champion and two-time runner-up Youzhny got past German Philipp Petzschner 7-5, 7-5, while his seventh-seeded fellow former top-10 Russian Davydenko was ousted by Colombian qualifier Robert Farah 6-3, 6-2 at Iphitos Tennis Club.

Davydenko titled here in 2004 and last year, when he beat Germany's own Florian Mayer in the final.

Eighth-seeded Marcos Baghdatis avoided an upset by outlasting German Tobias Kamke 6-1, 3-6, 6-2.

Former world No. 2 German Tommy Haas posted a victory with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 decision against fellow wild card countryman Michael Berrer, while another German, Matthias Bachinger, handled Colombian Alejandro Falla 7-6 (7-3), 6-2.

The oft-injured 2000 Munich runner-up Haas is rewarded with a second-round match against top-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga on Wednesday.

Other Day-2 winners were Jamaican qualifier Dustin Brown, Aussie qualifier Marinko Matosevic, Latvian Ernests Gulbis, Italian Potito Starace and Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky.

This week's winner will earn $95,000.
