Miami, FL – New York Knicks rookie guard Iman Shumpert will undergo surgery and is expected to miss approximately six-to-eight months, the team has announced.
The prodecure will be to repair a torn left ACL and lateral meniscus suffered in Saturday's Game 1 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals against Miami.
While trying to make a crossover move in the third quarter, Shumpert's left knee appeared to buckle. He fell to the floor grabbing the knee, and was carried off the court by two trainers.
Shumpert injured his right knee in the Knicks' season opener, and he pulled out of the All-Star slam dunk contest with tendinitis in that knee.
The 17th overall pick in last year's draft, Shumpert averaged 9.5 points and 3.2 rebounds in 59 games -- 35 starts -- during the regular season.
