The Colorado Rapids signed midfielder Jeff Larentowicz to a new multi-year contract Friday.

The 28-year-old Larentowicz joined Colorado in 2010, and helped the club seal the 2010 MLS Cup. He has also played four matches for the United States since his arrival in Colorado.

"Jeff has been an incredibly important part of this team since he joined us before the 2010 season," said Rapids technical director Paul Bravo. "We needed his strong play and leadership to win the MLS Cup, and the United States national team has also seen his value.

"We're thrilled that he'll continue in our midfield for years to come."

Larentowicz, who started his MLS career with the New England Revolution, has played 70 regular-season games, including 69 starts, for Colorado. He played in every game over the last two seasons.

"I'm extremely happy to stay here and be a part of this club for many years in the future," said Larentowicz.
