The Houston Astros placed pitcher Kyle Weiland on the 15-day disabled list Friday among multiple roster moves.
Weiland, 25, is sidelined with right shoulder bursitis. He has gone 0-3 with a 6.62 earned run average in three starts thus far for Houston.
In addition, infielder Marwin Gonzalez was placed on the paternity list. The 23-year-old switch-hitter has collected just nine hits in 39 at-bats over 16 games (12 starts) so far in 2012.
To fill the roster spots, the Astros recalled pitcher Fernando Abad and infielder Brian Bixler from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Abad had been optioned to Oklahoma City on April 9 despite making the Opening Day roster. He made two appearances, allowing one earned run in 1 1/3 innings.
Bixler totaled one hit in six at-bats over five games for Houston before being optioned on April 12.
