Major League Baseball handed down a pair of 50-game suspensions for violations of the rules regarding performance- enhancing substances on Thursday.
Miami Marlins infielder Jaime Ortiz -- now at Double-A Jacksonville -- drew his ban after testing positive for evidence of Stanzolol, while St. Louis Cardinals pitch Jose Pasen -- in Batavia of the New York-Penn League -- was penalized for Nandrolone.
The suspensions take effect immediately.
