The San Diego Padres reinstated infielder/outfielder Mark Kotsay from the 15-day disabled list Monday.

Kotsay began the season on the DL with a strained right calf.

The 36-year-old spent last season with the Milwaukee Brewers and carried a .270 batting average with 13 doubles, three home runs and 31 runs batted in.

Over 15 seasons with the Marlins, Padres, Athletics, Braves, Red Sox, White Sox and Brewers, Kotsay is a career .278 hitter with 343 doubles, 124 homers, 694 RBI and 773 runs scored.

San Diego optioned pitcher Brad Brach to Triple-A Tucson to open a roster spot for Kotsay.

Brach made his first career Opening Day roster this season and appeared in five games in relief for the Padres, going 0-1 with a 5.06 ERA.
