Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg started from the pole and was in charge all the way en route to winning the Chinese Grand Prix on Sunday.

The German captured his first career Formula One victory after starting from the pole position for the first time.

"This is a very special moment for me," Rosberg said. "The whole weekend went perfectly. My first pole position, now my first win in Formula One - it really is fantastic."

Rosberg crossed the finish line 20.6 seconds ahead of McLaren's Jenson Button. Lewis Hamilton of McLaren took third and the Red Bull duo of Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel completed the top-five.

Ferrari's Fernando Alonso came into the race as the series points leader, but finished ninth.

Hamilton is now atop the point standings with 45 points. Button follows close behind in second with 43 points and Alonso sits in third with 37 points. Rosberg moved into sixth place in the standings (25 points).
