The Houston Astros announced Thursday that they will reinstate infielder Jed Lowrie from the 15-day disabled list on Friday.

The Astros originally placed Lowrie on the disabled list on March 29, a day after Lowrie sprained his right thumb in a Grapefruit League game against Miami.

Acquired in the offseason from Boston, the 27-year-old Lowrie batted .252 with six home runs, 40 runs scored and 36 RBI in 88 games with the Red Sox last season.

To make room for Lowrie on the roster, Houston optioned infielder Brian Bixler to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
