Kobe Bryant missed his second straight game with a shin injury, but Metta World Peace played the role of hero quite nicely on Monday as he drained the go-ahead three-pointer from the top of the key with 1:26 to play and the Los Angeles Lakers held on for a 93-91 win over the New Orleans Hornets.

World Peace finished with eight points -- six in the final quarter -- Pau Gasol netted 25 points to go with nine rebounds, Andrew Bynum added 18 and 11 boards and Ramon Sessions finished with 17 to go with six rebounds and six assists for the Lakers, who snapped a brief two-game skid.

Carl Landry paced the Hornets with 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Marco Belinelli added 20 points and Greivis Vasquez added 18 with 11 assists in defeat. New Orleans has lost five of its last seven games.

Trailing by eight, 81-73, with less than seven minutes to play, The Lakers went on a 13-5 burst to tie the game at 86 before World Peace drained his shot to put Los Angeles ahead, 89-86.

Sessions then sank another three to extend the Lakers lead to 92-86 with 26.1 seconds to go.

Vasquez's trey on the Hornets next touch made it 92-89, but Gasol drained 1- of-2 from the line to give the Lakers a four-point lead before Chris Kaman converted on a driving layup to make it 93-91. But with only 1.2 seconds remaining, it was too late for New Orleans.

After a tightly played first quarter in which the Lakers led by as many as four and the Hornets by as many as five, Los Angeles carried a slim 21-19 advantage into the second.

Landry knocked down a 14-foot jumper with 7:40 left in the second quarter to tie the game at 29, but the Lakers ripped off an 11-2 burst to take a 40-31 advantage with less than four minutes to go before halftime.

The Hornets, though, answered right back with a 12-2 flurry of their own to grab a 43-42 edge, capped by a Kaman 14-footer with 6.3 seconds left.

Gasol nailed a 20-foot jumper as the horn sounded on the first half to put the Lakers up 44-43 at the break.

Bynum put home a layup with 5:40 to play in the third quarter to tie the game at 54, but the Hornets used a 15-6 run to take a 69-60 lead and New Orleans led 72-65 heading into the fourth.
