San Diego, CA – The San Diego Padres, while announcing their Opening Day roster on Tuesday, placed Carlos Quentin on the 15-day disabled list after the outfielder underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee in March.
On December 31, the Padres acquired Quentin from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for minor league pitchers Simon Castro and Pedro Hernandez.
A two-time All-Star and former Silver Slugger Award winner, Quentin has belted at least 21 home runs in each of the last four seasons. In 2011, he batted .254 with 24 home runs, a career-high 31 doubles and 77 RBI in 118 games for the White Sox.
Padres infielder/outfielder Mark Kotsay will start the season on the disabled list because of a right calf strain.
The club also optioned right-handed pitcher Brad Brach and infielder Everth Cabrera to Triple-A Tucson.
