Ohio's John Groce has reportedly been hired as Illinois' next men's basketball coach.

Several outlets, including the Chicago Tribune, reported the hiring late Wednesday night.

Under Groce, Ohio earned a Sweet 16 berth in this season's NCAA Tournament, where the Bobcats fell to top-seeded North Carolina. Since taking over in 2008, he has guided Ohio to two NCAA Tournament appearances.

Groce replaces Bruce Weber, who was fired on March 9, one day after the Fighting Illini suffered their 12th loss in 14 games -- a 64-61 setback to Iowa in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament. Illinois was 15-3 in mid-January and entered the rankings after an upset of Ohio State, but it was mostly downhill from there.

In nine seasons with the Illini, Weber went 210-101 with a pair of Big Ten regular-season championships and one Big Ten Tournament crown. He also took the program to the brink of an NCAA championship, as Illinois lost to North Carolina in the title game of 2005 NCAA Tournament.
