St Johnstone climbs into top four

Francisco Sandaza's first-half penalty kick secured a 1-0 win for St Johnstone at Inverness on Wednesday and moved the visitors into fourth place in the Scottish Premier League.

St Johnstone entered the match having won three of its previous four games to improve its European hopes, and the visitors took the lead shortly before halftime when Gregory Tade clattered into St Johnstone's Liam Craig inside the penalty area.

Sandaza stepped forward and made no mistake from 12 yards, leaving Inverness goalkeeper Jonathan Tuffey with little chance.

The hosts nearly snatched an equalizer deep into stoppage time when substitute Claude Gnakpa struck the crossbar from 15 yards out, and although the defeat is the club's third in five games, they still remain 11 points clear of the bottom.
