Toronto, ON – Toronto FC goalkeeper Stefan Frei sustained a broken fibula Friday in training and will be sidelined eight to 10 weeks, the MLS club announced Saturday.
Frei will undergo an MRI next week to determine the extend of the injury and whether surgery is required, Toronto said in a release.
The 26-year-old started 81 games over the last three seasons for Toronto.
Toronto FC lost to the San Jose Earthquakes, 3-0, on Saturday to drop to 0-2-0 this season. TFC lost its opener at Seattle Sounders FC, 3-1.
