Sociedad pulled a goal back before half through Xabi Prieto, but Benzema added his second 4 minutes after halftime and Ronaldo completed his brace inside the hour mark to complete the rout.

Ronaldo claimed the La Liga scoring lead with 35 goals, one ahead of Barcelona star Lionel Messi.

Madrid snapped a two-fixture winless skid, both draws, to maintain its cushion atop the standings over Barcelona at six points. The club tied its last two games to allow Barca to close a once double-digit deficit, but rebounded ahead of its Champions League quarterfinal series.
