Jeff Sluman poured in birdie after birdie Saturday to move to the top of the leaderboard at the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic, and Fred Couples did enough to join him there.
The two, tied for first at 11-under-par 133, will carry a two-stroke edge into Sunday's final round at Fallen Oak.
The tournament managed to complete the second round Saturday, when the first round was completed earlier in the day. A weather delay of more than four hours set the tournament back Friday, when only 12 players finished their rounds.
Both Sluman and Couples had to complete their first rounds Saturday. Couples rolled in six consecutive birdies to end his round of nine-under 63, while Sluman carded a three-under 69.
But during the second round, it was Sluman who put together a big run. He sank four birdies in a row on the back nine to go into the clubhouse with an eight- under 64. Couples posted six birdies during his second round, but also had four bogeys and finished with a 70.
Jim Thorpe fired a seven-under 65 to move into third at minus-nine. Chien Soon Lu, John Huston and Bobby Clampett all shot 69 for their second rounds, and share fourth at eight-under 136.
