Schalke's Joel Matip had his red card against Twente overturned on appeal, it was announced on Friday.

Matip was sent off for a foul on Twente's Luuk de Jong in the first leg of their Europa League round of 16 encounter, allowing the Dutch side to claim a 1-0 win.

With replays showing that Matip made no contact with De Jong, the 20-year-old was allowed to play in the second leg, which Schalke won 4-1, when his appeal was suspended. And with the German outfit getting ready to meet Athletic Bilbao in the quarterfinals, Matip will be available.
