Designer Stella McCartney has unveiled her designs for Britain's Olympic athletes with uniforms that make imaginative use of the familiar Union flag.

The first showing of the designs took place Thursday at a gala event at the Tower of London that combined fashion's razzle-dazzle with the star quality of top Olympic competitors.

McCartney said she hoped the athletes and the nation like the uniforms and are proud of the athletes who will wear them at the Olympics and Paralympic Games.

British athletes who modeled the new gear included heptathlete Jessica Ennis, rowing champion Pete Reed and double Paralympic swimming gold medallist Ellie Simmonds.

McCartney is adidas' creative director for the Olympic gear.
