Washington, DC – Roy Hibbert had 19 points and nine rebounds ahead three down the stretch as the Indiana Pacers 83, on Thursday.
John Wall had one final chance to tie the contest, but was unable to get his floater off -- which went in -- before the final buzzer.
Indiana, which was outrebounded 24-14 in the opening half, held a 26-11 advantage on the glass in the second half.
Jordan Crawford poured in 21 points for Washington, which was coming off a 2-4 road trip. Wall finished with 16 points and nine assists.
Down 83-77 with 2:32 to go in the game, the Pacers closed the contest on an 8-0 run.
Hibbert started the push with a short hook shot and after a Washington shot- clock violation, Granger drew a foul and knocked down a pair of foul shots, making it 83-81 with 1:42 remaining.
West pulled down three key offensive rebounds in the final 1:04.
George missed a right-wing triple, but West came down with the board and kicked back out to George. From the same spot, George's second attempt was pure, giving the Pacers their first lead of the game, 84-83.
Darren Collison stole the ensuing inbounds pass and the Wizards didn't regain possession until the nine-second mark as West snatched two offensive rebounds on misfires by Hibbert and Collison.
Collison made 1-of-2 from the stripe for an 85-83 Indiana lead.
Crawford got the Wizards going early as he nailed a pair of treys and netted eight points as the hosts jumped out to a 12-4 start. Crawford nailed six of his seven shots for 14 points in the first as the Wizards led, 34-18.
Chris Singleton capped a 7-0 Washington spurt with a trey late in the second as the Wizards took a commanding 47-25 lead. Washington held a 51-31 advantage at the break.
The Pacers charged back early in the third with a 14-2 push, and trailed, 66-57, heading into the fourth.
Indiana netted the first nine points of the final stanza as the visitors whittled the deficit to 68-66 with 8:57 left.
Indiana is 13-12 as the visitor this season while Washington is 6-17 at home...Collison had six points and five assists...Singleton finished with 16 points...Each team turned the ball over 17 times...Indiana held a 42-26 points in the paint margin.
