TAMPA, Fla. – Andy Pettitte says his arm feels great after throwing his first bullpen session with the New York Yankees since ending his brief retirement.
The 39-year-old lefty threw 50 pitches to catcher Russell Martin, and even joked that he may be ready to pitch in the big leagues in three weeks. Pettitte says his target date is May 1.
Pettitte arrived in camp Tuesday, took physicals and then took the mound. He signed a minor league contract with the Yankees on Friday after sitting out last season because he didn't have the desire to keep pitching. Pettitte is 240-138 with a 3.88 ERA in 16 major league seasons.
