D.C. United added English midfielder Lewis Neal on Tuesday, just days after losing its Major League Soccer opener against Sporting Kansas City

The 30-year old Neal joins United after helping Orlando City win the USL Pro title last season. He began his career with Stoke City in 2000, and spent the entire decade with various English sides - with the exception of a short loan deal to Iceland side IBV - before joining Orlando in 2011.

"Lewis will provide us solid cover for us at a number of positions," United General Manager Dave Kasper said. "We look forward to his future contributions to the club."

Neal played 21 matches for Orlando and scored four goals. He will be available for selection following receipt of his visa.

United lost its opener 1-0 on a last-minute goal against Sporting, and visits the Los Angeles Galaxy on Sunday for its next match.
