The IOC has formally approved the change to British nationality of triple jumper Yamile Aldama, clearing the way for her to compete for her adopted country at the London Olympics.

The Cuban-born Aldama has already been competing for Britain, winning gold at the world indoor championships last weekend in Istanbul. She received British citizenship two years ago, but required IOC approval to compete for her new country in the Olympics.

The IOC agreed to reduce the three-year waiting period outlined in the Olympic Charter. The IOC said agreement had been reached by the international federation and the British Olympic Association.

The IOC also approved German cyclist Philip Hindes' switch to British nationality.
