Colston stays with Saints, Marshall to Bears

Free agency has begun with one star receiver staying put and one being traded.

Marques Colston re-signed with the New Orleans Saints on Tuesday, just hours before he would have gone on the free agent market. And just before the 4 p.m. EDT opening of free agency, Chicago acquired Brandon Marshall from Miami for two draft picks.

The top free agent, of course, is Peyton Manning, who was released a week ago by the Colts. He still is conducting his limited tour of teams.

Players released Tuesday include Cowboys cornerback Terence Newman, Texans tackle Eric Winston and backup quarterback Matt Leinart, and San Diego tackle Marcus McNeill.

Re-signing with their teams are Giants cornerback Terrell Thomas, Eagles tackle Todd Herremans, Chargers center Nick Hardwick, and Bears cornerback Tim Jennings.
