Newcastle and Sunderland have been charged Wear derby, it was announced Wednesday.

With several heated exchanges taking place over the course of the match, the FA released a statement explaining why the two clubs have been charged.

"The charge is that the clubs failed to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or refrained from provocative behavior and is in relation to an incident which occurred in the 19th minute following a challenge by Sunderland's James McClean on Newcastle's Danny Simpson."

Only McClean and Simpson were booked following the aforementioned fracas, but the FA extended the charge to both clubs.

Newcastle and Sunderland have until March 12 to respond to the charge.
