New York, NY – Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ryan Miller, Detroit Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall and Chicago Blackhawks netminder Ray Emery have been selected as the NHL's 'Three Stars' for the week ending March 4.
Miller won all three of his starts last week -- all on the road -- including consecutive shutouts in Anaheim and San Jose to earn the First Star.
The 2009-10 Vezina Trophy winner stopped 43 Ducks shots on Wednesday and followed that with 39 saves the next night against the Sharks. Miller stretched his shutout streak to 155:37, and finished his week by turning aside 32-of-35 shots in Saturday's win against the Western Conference-leading Vancouver Canucks.
Miller is 6-0-2 in his past eight starts, helping Buffalo surge back into playoff contention. With a win Monday in Winnipeg, the Sabres would tie the Jets for the Eastern Conference's eighth and final playoff spot.
Kronwall received Second Star honors after tying for the league scoring lead with seven points (two goals, five assists) in three games. He registered back-to-back three-point games at Columbus on Tuesday and against visiting Minnesota three days later.
Third Star went to Emery, who posted a 1.13 goals-against average and .959 save percentage in three Chicago wins.
