Manchester United reassured the Premiership title will remain in Manchester for another season Sunday.

Whether it will stay with defending champions Manchester United or move across town to rival Manchester City is still to be determined.

Ashley Young scored twice, Wayne Rooney added his 22nd goal of the season, and United defeated Tottenham 3-1 at White Hart Lane to put both Manchester squads at least 11 points clear of their nearest challenger.

United moved back within two points of City, which leads the standings with 66 points. Tottenham is third on 53 points.

Tottenham was impressive throughout the first half as Emmanuel Adebayor forced a save from United goalie David De Gea inside 20 minutes and had a goal called back before the 40-minute mark because he had played the ball with his hand.

United pounced before the break on one of its few chances when Rooney held off Tottenham's Kyle Walker inside the 6-yard box to turn a corner past Tottenham goalie Brad Friedel.

Young spoiled a strong start to the second half for Tottenham when he bagged a second goal for United. Young finished a pass from Nani on the hour mark, with a finish at the left post that put the visitors took control.

United removed any doubts it would escape with three points when Young drove a 25-yard shot inside Friedel's left post in the 69th.

Sir Alex Ferguson's side won its third straight fixture and for the sixth time in their last seven. United's other result over its last seven league matches was a draw.

Jermain Defoe pulled a goal back in the 87th for Tottenham with a nice strike from 30 yards, but Spurs slumped to their third loss in their last six matches to allow Arsenal to close within four points in fourth this weekend.
