Shannon Morrison has returned to the Patriot League as the new defensive coordinator at Holy Cross.

Crusaders head coach Tom Gilmore on Friday announced the hiring of Morrison and the promotion of Bill Samko from volunteer offensive assistant coach to offensive line coach.

Morrison was the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Lehigh in 2004 when the Mountain Hawks won a share of the Patriot League title and earned an at-large berth in the FCS (then Division I-AA) playoffs.

He served as the cornerbacks coach at Memphis over the last two seasons.

Morrison also was an assistant coach at Bowling Green (2009); his alma mater, Marshall (2005-08); Southeast Missouri State (2000-2003); Hampden-Sydney (1998-1999); Sam Houston State (1996); and Marshall (1995 and '97) as a graduate assistant.

Holy Cross was 6-5 overall, and 3-2 in the Patriot League, last season.
