Cincinnati, OH – The Cincinnati Bengals have placed the franchise tag on kicker Mike Nugent.
Nugent made a career-high 33 field goals in 16 games last season. Nugent's performance last year was more impressive considering the fact that he was coming back from tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his kicking knee in the ninth game of the 2010 season.
The Ohio State product also recorded a career-best 36 touchbacks in 2011, helping the Bengals finish first in the NFL in opponents starting field position.
The 30-year-old, who has been with the Bengals since 2010, will receive about $2.7 million for the 2012 season.
