Larry Mize shot a 10-under 62 Friday to grab the first-round lead at the ACE Group Classic.

Mize eagled No. 17 and birdied the 18th to finish off his round. This April will be the 25th anniversary of Mize's playoff chip-in to beat Greg Norman in the 1987 Masters.

Tom Lehman, Kenny Perry and Russ Cochran are close behind after each shot 64. Mike Goodes, who won the qualifier on Tuesday and was partnered with Mize, is fifth after a 65.

Mize matched his career low. He shot a 62 once on the PGA Tour in 1985 at Los Angeles, this week's stop on the PGA Tour.

Mize hit 12 of 14 fairways, all 18 greens and had just 27 putts.

Fifty-four of the 79 golfers to finish their first rounds shot par or better on a calm day at The TwinEagles Club.
