Seattle, WA – The Washington Mystics have acquired center Ashley Robinson from the Seattle Storm in exchange for forward Victoria Dunlap.
Robinson had a career year in 2011, averaging 3.8 points and 3.9 rebounds in 34 games (13 starts) for the Storm. The 6-foot-4, 180-pounder has spent the last five seasons in Seattle, where she was a member of the team that captured the 2010 WNBA Championship.
In 238 career games (41 starts) with Phoenix, Chicago and Seattle, Robinson has averaged 1.8 points and 2.5 rebounds.
"We welcome Ashley to the Mystics. She is a veteran center with championship experience," Mystics general manager and head coach Trudi Lacey said. "Her size, athleticism and shot blocking ability gives us a new dimension at that position. Ashley brings depth to our team which is important as we continue to add pieces for a playoff run this upcoming season."
The 11th overall pick in the 2011 WNBA Draft by the Mystics, Dunlap averaged 2.3 points and 1.7 boards in 26 contests last season.
The Storm also re-signed guard Katie Smith on Tuesday. Smith, the all-time leading scorer in women's professional basketball history, returns for her second season with the Storm and 13th in the WNBA.
In 414 career games (378 starts) with Minnesota, Detroit, Washington and Seattle, Smith has averaged 14.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists. She is a two-time WNBA champion and seven-time All-Star.
"Katie gives us great depth at the guard positions, she can play some three and she's proven to be one of the ultimate winners in the WNBA," Storm head coach and general manager Brian Agler said. "I think that as we keep moving forward, we don't want to lose our identity as being a defensive-minded, physically and mentally tough team. She definitely brings all those attributes."
