Bolton, England – Bolton climbed out of the relegation zone 1 victory over Liverpool at the Reebok Stadium on Saturday.
Mark Davies, Nigel Reo-Coker, and Gretar Steinsson each scored once in the victory, while Craig Bellamy provided the lone goal for the Reds.
Bolton got off to a dream start as Davies collected the ball in the attacking and was given the freedom to advance into the Liverpool box. Davies took the space that afforded to him and completed the move by sliding a shot past Pepe Reina in just the third minute.
Reo-Coker doubled the lead in the 29th minute with a classy finish. The Englishman cushioned a chipped ball with his chest before calmly slipping his effort into the back of the net.
Liverpool battled back and notched a goal just before the break. Andy Carroll used his size to flick a long ball directly into the path of Bellamy and the Welsh striker finished the chance with great aplomb to cut the deficit in half.
The Trotters emerged from the second half in a similar manner to how they started the game: putting the pressure on the visitors.
It paid off five minutes into the second period, as Steinsson lashed a one- time effort just inside the post to restore the home side's a two-goal lead.
The win lifts Bolton to 19 points on the year, one point clear of the relegation zone. With defender Tim Ream and striker Sebastien Le Toux both looking likely to sign with the Trotters and provide Owen Coyle with some reinforcements after losing Gary Cahill to Chelsea, Bolton could be poised for a strong push in the second half of the season in a bid to remain in the Premier League.
Liverpool, in seventh place with 35 points, is winless in its last three Premiership contests.
Norwich City 0, Chelsea 0
Norwich, England - Chelsea failed to capitalize on some second-half scoring chances as the Blues were held to a 0-0 draw by Norwich City at Carrow Road on Saturday.
Fernando Torres came close to breaking the deadlock, but he poked his close- range effort just wide of the post, and 10 minutes from time, Juan Mata snapped a shot toward goal on the turn but his attempt struck the outside of the near post and went out of play.
Chelsea sits fourth with 41 points while Norwich, unbeaten in its last four league games, occupies ninth with 29 points.
Fulham 5, Newcastle 2
London, England - Clint Dempsey became the first American to record a hat trick in the English Premier League as the attacker scored three times to guide Fulham to a 5-2 victory over Newcastle on Saturday.
Danny Guthrie put Newcastle in front just before the break, but Fulham responded in the second half thanks to Dempsey's three-goal effort and penalties from Danny Murphy and Bobby Zamora. Hatem Ben Arfa also scored for the Magpies.
Fulham has won two of its last three to improve to 26 points on the year, while Newcastle fails to jump ahead of Arsenal before the Gunners face Manchester United on Sunday. The Geordies sit in sixth place on 36 points.
QPR 3, Wigan 1
London, England - QPR snapped its three-game losing skid and earned its first win under manager Mark Hughes on Saturday, defeating lowly Wigan, 3-1, at Loftus Road.
A penalty from Heidar Helguson and a goal from Akos Buzsaky saw QPR head into the break with a two-goal advantage. Hugo Rodallega notched his second goal of the year to bring Wigan to within touching distance with just under 25 minutes to play, but the Latics conceded the match when Tommy Smith struck in the 81st minute.
The win lifts QPR out of the relegation zone, sitting two points clear with 20 points. Wigan remains bottom of the league with just 15 points through 22 games.
Aston Villa 3, Wolverhampton 2
Wolverhampton, England - Robbie Keane made an immediate impact in his loan spell at Aston Villa as the Los Angeles Galaxy striker bagged a brace to see the Villans edge 10-man Wolverhampton, 3-2, at Molineux on Saturday.
Darren Bent opened the scoring in the 11th minute from the penalty spot, but Wolves went into halftime with the lead thanks to goals from Michael Kightly and David Edwards. Keane equalized for Villa in the 51st minute and then took advantage of Karl Henry's sending off in the 74th minute by netting the game- winner five minutes from time.
Aston Villa remains in the bottom half of the table but improves to 27 points on the year, while Wolverhampton slips into the relegation zone with 18 points.
Sunderland 2, Swansea City 0
Sunderland, England - Sunderland continued its good form under Martin O'Neill as the Black Cats claimed three points in a 2-0 win over Swansea City at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.
Stephane Sessegnon scored in the 14th minute and Craig Gardner scored in the 85th minute to help Sunderland grab its fifth win in eight games since O'Neill took over.
With the win, Sunderland jumps one point ahead of Swansea in the table, occupying tenth place with 27 points.
West Bromwich 2, Stoke City 1
Stoke-on-Trent, England - There was plenty of drama on hand at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday as West Bromwich struck in second-half stoppage time to earn a 2-1 win over Stoke City.
James Morrison put the visitors in front in the 35th minute and looked as if it would stand as the lone goal of the match. Cameron Jerome equalized for Stoke in the 86th minute, but West Brom escaped with all three points after Graham Dorrans struck with the winner late on.
The win puts a halt to West Brom's three-game losing slide and lifts the Baggies to 25 points, seven clear of the relegation zone. Stoke City, in eighth place with 30 points, sees its four-game unbeaten run in league play come to an end.
Everton 1, Blackburn 1
Liverpool, England - Two dubious goals at Goodison Park stood as Everton and Blackburn played to a 1-1 draw in Merseyside on Saturday.
Tim Cahill opened the scoring in the 24th minute, sliding a shot into the back of the net after it appeared that Marouane Fellaini handled the ball in the build up. The equalizer came in the second half when Cahill cleared the ball off the Everton goal line, but it was batted down by David Goodwillie and stuffed home.
Everton is now winless in its last four league games, slipping into the bottom half of the table with 26 points. The draw brings Blackburn to 18 points, sitting level with Wolverhampton but holding the edge on goal differential.
