Indians sign Spilborghs

The Cleveland Indians have signed outfielder Ryan Spilborghs to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Last season, Spilborghs hit just .210 with three homers and 22 RBI in 98 games. His campaign was cut short due to plantar fasciitis in his right foot.

Spilborghs has a career .272 batting average with 42 home runs and 218 runs in 619 games, all with the Rockies.

The Indians also signed infielder Gregorio Petit to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. Petit, who missed the entire 2011 campaign with a knee injury, has hit .278 in 25 career games with Oakland.
