Westbrook signs extension with Thunder

Oklahoma City guard Russell Westbrook has year contract extension.

Financial details were not immediately available.

Westbrook is in his fourth season with the Thunder, who made him the fourth overall pick of the 2008 draft. He is averaging 20.5 points, 5.5 assists and 5.0 rebounds in 15 games this season.

"We are thrilled to solidify Russell's future with the Thunder," said general manager Sam Presti in a statement. "Since we arrived in Oklahoma City, Russell's work ethic, persistence, character, and involvement in our community have helped us establish the standards that we are committed to on a day-to- day basis. He is a valued member of our organization and we look forward to his continued contributions on and off the floor."

The UCLA product was selected to the All-NBA Second Team in 2010-11 after averaging career bests of 21.9 points and 8.2 assists. He was also chosen for the All-Star Game for the first time last year and earlier this week was among the 20 finalists for the 2012 U.S. Olympic team.

Westbrook, who has never missed a contest and has been a starter in all but 17 games, has career averages of 17.9 points, 7.0 assists and 4.0 rebounds in 261 games.
