Melbourne, Australia – Top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki, up Li Na were each sets winners Wednesday in the second round of the Australian Open.
Wozniacki, looking for her first Grand Slam, fought off a set point in the second set before prevailing, 6-1, 7-6 (7-4), over Anna Tatishvili at Hisense Arena.
Clijsters, seeded 11th, breezed past Stephanie Foretz Gacon of France 6-0, 6-1 in just 47 minutes, while the fifth-seeded Li earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Olivia Rogowska of Australia.
A potential rematch of last year's final awaits in the fourth round if Clijsters can win her third-round match against Daniela Hantuchova, who as the No. 20 seed outlasted Lesia Tsurenko, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, and Li can top 26th-seed Anabel Medina Garrigues, an easy 6-1, 6-0 winner over Olga Govortsova on Wednesday.
In other seeded second-round matches: 2010 Roland Garros titlist Francesca Schiavone, seeded 10th, was upset by Romina Oprandi, 6-4, 6-3; 13th-seeded Jelena Jankovic defeated Kai-Chen Chang, 6-4, 6-2; and Iveta Benesova upended No. 16 Peng Shuai, 6-2, 6-4.
Twenty-second ranked Julia Goerges advanced when Eleni Daniilidou retired in the second set with the former ahead, 6-2, 2-0.
Also advancing were Nina Bratchikova, Galina Voskoboeva and Christina McHale.
