Team USA had a strong finish at the IBU World Cup in Nove best sixth place in the 10km sprint, and Sara Studebaker (Boise, Idaho) had the highest finish for the American women, placing 42nd in the 10km pursuit.
SWIMMING TO GOLD IN AUSTIN, TEXAS
Michael Phelps (Baltimore, Md.) and Allison Schmitt (Canton, Mich.) won three gold medals apiece at the Austin Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, while 40-year- old Janet Evans (Placentia, Calif.) qualified for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Swimming in both the 400-meter freestyle and 800-meter freestyle.
BOBSLED & SKELETON
Mike Dellemann(Oregon, Wis.) posted the top finish of Team USA's skeleton athletes after wrapping up the Europa Cup in Winterberg, Germany with 12th- and eighth-place finishes in the men's races. Meghan Sullivan (Bluemont, Va.) led the U.S. women, placing 16th and 17th.
USA-1 bobsledders Steven Holcomb (Park City, Utah), Justin Olsen (San Antonio, Texas), Steve Langton (Melrose, Mass.) and Curt Tomasevicz (Shelby, Neb.) placed sixth in the world cup race in Koenigssee, Germany. In the men's skeleton, women's skeleton, women's bobsled and men's two-man bobsled team event, Team USA took ninth place. Meanwhile, Team USA skeleton athletes Matt Antoine (Prairie du Chien, Wis.) and Katie Uhlaender (Breckenridge, Colo.) claimed fourth- and fifth-place finishes, respectively.
Steven Gluckstein (Atlantic Highlands, N.J) finished 10th at the 2012 Visa International Gymnastics event in London, earning himself-and Team USA-a berth to the 2012 Olympic Games for men's trampoline.
On Jan. 16, Kathryn Kluz (Wixom, Mich.), Jessica Ling (Wixom, Mich.) and Lisa Burt (Port Orange, Fla.) qualified for the 2012 Nastia Liukin Cup.
Team USA raced to a fifth-place finish in the team relay at the world cup in Oberhof, Germany. The team, comprised of Erin Hamline (Remsen, N.Y.), Chris Mazder (Saranak Lake, N.Y.), Matt Mortensen (Huntington Station, N.Y.) and Preston Griffall (Salt Lake City, Utah), were 0.2 away from earning a place on the podium. Mortensen and Graffall placed sixth in doubles, and Hamoine placed sixth in women's singles.
SKI & SNOWBOARD
Lindsey Vonn (St. Paul, Minn.) skied to her 47th world cup win in Cortina D'Ampezzo, Italy, while teammate Julia Mancuso (Reno, Nev.) finished fifth. In Val Di Fiemme, Italy, ski jumper Sarah Hendrickson (Park City, Utah) won her fourth world cup title.
Mark Lopez (Sugar Land, Texas) and Nia Abdallah (Houston, Texas) fought their way back through the elimination bracket to win their respective divisions and qualify for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Taekwondo finals in March. More

Meb Keflezighi (Mammoth Lakes, Calif.) earned his third Olympic berth and Shalane Flanagan (Portland, Ore.) earned her second during the U.S Olympic Team Trials for Marathon in Houston. Keflezighi finished the race in a personal best time of 2:09:08, while Flanagan finished in an Olympic Trials record of 2:25:38.
Tony Azevedo (Long Beach, Calif.) scored a game-high six goals as Team USA defeated Australia in overtime to clinch the gold medal at the 2012 Pan Pacs in Melbourne, Australia. The women's team earned a silver medal at the tournament, falling to Australia 7-4 in the final.
The U.S. World University Water Ski Team won the gold medal at the World University Championships in San Bernardo, Chile. The team, consisting of six athletes, took first place in a field of 17 teams.
Team USA wrestlers won three medals in women's freestyle on the final day of competition at the Mongolian Open in Ulan Baatar, Mongolia . Kelsey Campbell (Colorado Springs, Colo.) captured a gold medal at the 130-pound weight class and teammate Whitney Condor (Colorado Springs, Colo.) wrestled to a silver medal at the 112.25-pound weight class. Meanwhile, Stephanie Lee (Colorado Springs, Colo.) defeated the 2008 world silver medalist to earn bronze in the 158.5-pound weight class.
In Kouvola, Finland, Chad Vandiver (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Joseph Sheffield (Camp Lejeune, N.C.) finished the Herman Kare International with fifth-place medals.
YOUTH OLYMPIC GAMES
Team USA clinched a playoff berth as Korey Dropkin (Southborough, Mass.) and teammates Sarah Anderson (Broomall, Pa.), Thomas Howell (Brick, N.J.) and Taylor Anderson (Broomall, Pa.) defeated the Czech Republic (4-2) and Norway (2-4) to stay on top of their group standings.
Ty Andersen (Alpine, Utah) and Pat Edmonds (Park City, Utah) earned a bronze medal at the doubles luge event in Igls, Austria.
SKI & SNOWBOARD
Ben Ferguson (Bend, Ore.) and Arielle Gold (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) won gold and silver medals in halfpipe snowboarding.
The U.S. Olympic Boys' ice hockey team holds a 2-0-0-1 record in preliminary play after wins over Austria (7-2), and Finland (5-4). The team wraps up preliminary play against Russia on Wednesday, Jan. 18.
