Cal Poly football will visit FBS member Wyoming as part of a 2012 schedule in which the Mustangs join the Big Sky Conference.

In leaving the disbanded Great West Football Conference, Cal Poly will kick off its season on Sept. 1 at home against the University of San Diego.

Following a bye, the Mustangs will go to Laramie on Sept. 15 to take on Wyoming, a member of the Mountain West Conference which went 8-5 and played in the New Mexico Bowl this past season.

Cal Poly's first two Big Sky opponents will be familiar, UC Davis at home on Sept. 22 and North Dakota on the road on Sept. 29. Those two teams also are making the move from the Great West to the Big Sky.

Other home conference games are against Northern Colorado (Oct. 13), Portland State on Homecoming (Oct. 20) and Idaho State (Nov. 10).

Coach Tim Walsh's Mustangs also will play conference games on the road at Weber State (Oct. 6), Sacramento State (Oct. 27) and Northern Arizona (Nov. 17). Their Nov. 3 visit to Eastern Washington will not count toward the Big Sky standings.

Cal Poly posted a 6-5 record in 2011, its eighth winning season in the last nine years.
