The Detroit Tigers avoided arbitration with hander Max Scherzer, outfielder Delmon Young and infielder/outfielder year deals.

Scherzer enjoyed his best season in the majors last season, going 15-9 with a 4.43 ERA and 174 strikeouts in 33 starts. His 15 wins were a career best and in two seasons with the Tigers he is 27-20 with a 3.96 ERA and 358 strikeouts in 64 starts.

Young appeared in 40 games for the Tigers last season after coming over from Minnesota and hit .274 with five doubles, a triple, eight home runs and 32 RBI. He also tied the club record for home runs hit by a Tigers player during a single post-season with five in nine games.

The versatile Kelly, meanwhile, saw action in 113 games at a multitude of positions for the Tigers last season and batted .245 with eight doubles, three triples, seven home runs and 28 RBI. While the bulk of his time was spent in the outfield (60 games), he also saw time at pitcher (one game), catcher (one game), first base (15 games) and third base (45 games).
