Bronx, NY –  The New York Yankees avoided arbitration with year, non-guaranteed contract.

The 25-year-old endured an injury-plagued 2011 campaign, going just 5-5 with a 5.79 earned run average in 17 games (14 starts) for the Yanks.

A native of southern California, Hughes has put together a 36-23 record and 4.46 ERA in 120 games (71 starts) over five pro seasons, all with New York.

His best year came in 2010, when the right-hander finished 18-8 in 29 starts, placing second in wins to CC Sabathia.
