Saltalamacchia appeared in a career-high 103 games last season for the Red Sox, batting .235 with 23 doubles, 16 home runs, 56 RBI and 52 runs scored.

He also ranked third in the American League by catching 28 runners attempting to steal a base. It was the most for a Boston catcher since Jason Varitek's 29 in 2002.

A first-round supplemental draft pick by the Atlanta Braves in 2003, Saltalamacchia has appeared in 353 career games with Atlanta, Texas and Boston, recording a .244 average, .307 on-base percentage, 64 doubles, 39 home runs and 151 runs batted in.
